Welcome to Afton Elementary School—a vibrant learning community where every child is known, valued, and inspired to thrive. As principal, I’m proud to lead a school that has earned recognition as both a National Blue Ribbon School for closing the achievement gap and a National School of Character. These honors reflect who we are and what we believe: that academic success and character development go hand in hand.
At the heart of Afton is an extraordinary team of educators whose teaching practices are rooted in research-based pedagogy, inclusive design, and a deep understanding of child development. Our teachers are not only skilled instructors—they are compassionate guides who understand that students bring their whole selves into the classroom. We intentionally foster learning environments where curiosity is sparked, differences are embraced, and relationships are foundational.
We take a whole-child approach to education, ensuring that students' academic, social, emotional, and physical needs are supported. Through integrated instruction, collaborative learning, and responsive practices, our classrooms are places of meaningful engagement, where students are active participants in their learning journey.
But just as important as what we teach is how we treat one another. At Afton, kindness is a cornerstone. We intentionally build a school culture where empathy, respect, and inclusion are practiced every day—by students, staff, and families alike.
