ABC's of Afton

Dear Afton Families,

Welcome back! I hope this message finds you enjoying the final days of summer and feeling excited for the year ahead. We’re eagerly counting down the days until we welcome your children back to school!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mr. Arriaga and the Custodial team, whose tireless efforts over the summer have made our campus look absolutely beautiful—their hard work has truly set the stage for a warm and welcoming start. Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Danza also deserve a big round of applause for their attention to detail and behind-the-scenes work to ensure that everything is in place and ready to go for opening day.

I also want to extend special recognition to our amazing PTO. Their partnership and energy are already shaping what promises to be a year filled with enrichment opportunities, school spirit, and fun community events for students and families alike. Be sure to mark your calendar for our first PTO meeting on Thursday, September 18th  at 9:30 AM. Bring a friend—we’d love to grow our community of involved and supportive families.

I'm especially looking forward to Open House on Tuesday, September 2nd from 2:00–3:00 PM. It’s always a joy to see familiar faces and meet new members of our school community. I’ll be waiting at the front door to greet you and officially kick off another great school year together.

Here's to a fantastic year ahead!

Warmly,

Joseph P. Masgai, Ed.D.

Principal

Dear Families,

My name is Sara Corso, and I’m honored to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal serving both Afton and Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary Schools.

I come to this role with 22 years of experience in education, having worked across K–12 settings as a teacher and administrator. Most recently, I served as an Assistant Principal at the high school level, and I’m excited to now support students and staff at the elementary level where the foundation for lifelong learning truly begins. I believe deeply in K–12 alignment, and I’m committed to helping every child grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

As a parent myself, with a son entering 11th grade this fall, I understand how important these early school experiences are for students and for families. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and working together to create a warm, inclusive, and engaging school year for our children.

I’m also thrilled to share that, from time to time, students and staff may get a special visit from my certified Pennsbury therapy dog, Nami. Nami is a friendly Shiba Inu who loves bringing smiles, calm, and joy to the school community. Her presence supports our ongoing efforts to nurture student well-being and a positive school climate.

I can’t wait to meet your students and to be a part of the wonderful work happening at both schools.

Warmly,
Sara Corso
Assistant Principal

Blue Notes

If you need to pick your child up early or they need to go home a different way than they normally do each day, please complete the online Blue Note.  Your child’s teacher and the office will both receive the change for that day.  We are going paperless and suggest that you use this form instead of paper notes or the original blue note pad that was previously used.  Each teacher will also share the link with their class.

September 2nd is Afton Day at Yardley Ice House! Simply bring in the flyer that we will give you (stay tuned!) and the Ice House will donate 20% of their profits back to the PTO!

Our Back to School picnic, featuring DJ James, is happening on Friday, September 5th, from 5-7pm. You can take care of dinner for your family and support Afton’s 5th grade class by clicking here and ordering food at this link. Orders will be available for pickup the night of the picnic. Also, remember to bring cash for water ice and the famous back-to-school raffle!

Our first PTO meeting, complete with coffee and donuts, will be held on Thursday, September 18th at 9:30 am in the cafeteria! We try to plan events for the entire year early on, and we get our best ideas from all of you, so please come and tell us what you would like to see happen at Afton this year!

This fall, we will also be participating in our 3rd Fun Run! This is an exciting fundraising opportunity for the whole school with lots of prizes and excitement, and will culminate with an in-school walk/run event on September 19th!

Afton’s 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat will be taking place on Saturday, October 25th, from 12-2 in the parking lot at Afton. You will not want to miss this fun event with DJ James, exciting trunks, food trucks, and lots of candy and friends!

Don’t worry, your favorite BINGO night will be happening again! Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 21st, 2026. Will you win one of our great prizes?!?

Please keep your eyes out for the PTO paperwork that will come home in the back-to-school packet so that you don’t miss anything like Grading Days Out, Book Fairs, Holiday Shops, the almost famous Tall and Small Ball, and more!
